Then I wore them without the base layer on a short Yosemite day hike and on a longer summit near Lake Tahoe (8500’/2600m); temps were in the 40s-50s ˚F (5-15˚C) for both of those. They worked well in all those temp ranges. I haven’t added any wax to mine, choosing breathability over waterproofness since it’s dry here in southern California. The fit is fantastic above the knees, very comfortable with a low rise.

I really like the 9" length it is better for hiking. The cut and over al fit of the shorts is great too. I do wish they came in 28 & 29 waist size because after a day of hiking the waist stretches out making a 30 more like a 31. Another option would to add a draw string like on surf trunks. It would...

They have a lot of stretch and are very durable as they are made for hiking. They are also great at heat regulation and Eddie Bauer has a great warranty, I’ve had mine for 3 years and they’ve held up great.

Great short -- need a 31" waist

Unfortunately Eddie won't make a short that fits the thinner guy. Big difference between a 30" and a 32" inch waist when one is in that range in these shorts. 30"'s are too small for me and the 32" are too big. Come on -- a 2" spread between sizes.
